Halifax Contents Insurance £50 Cashback

Halifax have just announced they will give £50 cashback to people purchasing joint buildings and contents insurance cover.

Like the Halifax does with their current account customers where they give them an additional £5 per month if they stay with them they have announced they will give £50 if they take out joint buildings and contents cover.

This goes against recent research that shows buying combined buildings and contents insurance from the same company is a waste of money.

In their PR blurb they highlight the increasing number of burglaries and the fact that most people don’t lock their windows at night making it easy for people to break in.

They also point out that a massive 17% don’t even have home insurance cover which is worrying. OK, in these tough times sometimes the first thing that doesn’t get renewed is house contents insurance but this could be a false economy if you suffer a loss.

Now with unemployment increasing some people will turn to crime and it’s the opportunist burglars that get the most reward by trying to open doors and windows and just grabbing what they can from the house.

Our advice is : yes get insurance for your home but shop around for buildings and contents separately to get the best deals and don’t automatically get cover from your mortgage provider. Sometimes insurers combined products can offer the best deal in the market but this is not always the case.

Halifax suggests, as well as getting security for your home and remaining vigilant, keeping receipts for expensive goods in case you need to make a claim are important steps to make in protecting your home.

Their products offer unlimited contents insurance which is good because most people underestimate the value of their possessions and expensive items such as flat screen televisions, hi fi’s and jewelery can add thousands to what you own. Even a burst pipe can damage the house especially if it comes from upstairs and goes through the ceiling then onto electrical goods.

So check the various websites on what they have to offer through the price comparision sites but also the ones that are not on there such as direct line.
